TDM #14
Welcome! Everything is fine.
Uploading. . . Complete!
The Lobby.
- When you open your eyes, there is quite a lot of beige to take in. The unassuming walls of the room you've found yourself in are barren save for a single motivational poster directly in your line of sight. An illuminated sign above an open door on the far wall reads 'lobby exit.'
"Welcome," chimes a polite, synthesized voice. "I'm happy you're here." A moment later comes the clarity of the situation: you have died and so has the world you came from. "This is Amani, your new reality," continues The Peacekeeper. "Everything will be fine."
At least you aren't the only one here, you'll soon find out, as others who are just as confused and concerned as you are might be mingling on the main hub's first floor. Hopefully, you find a familiar face among the crowd. If not, that's all right. You'll get to know quite a few people very well soon enough.
- If you're one of the unlucky few whose death required a bit more intensive re-coding to maintain stability in the simulation, you'll instead awaken on a bed in the infirmary. Everything is strikingly white save for the occasional string of vines with lavender growing in bursts to help keep people calm. Whether or not it works seems to be on a case-by-case basis.
While there is active medical staff, the voice of The Peacekeeper is also there to explain the situation in a more delicate manner to these individuals. It's already stressful enough having to have gone through such a violent death, after all!
If characters want more questions answered, they'll need to speak to The Peacekeeper directly. But first, it will encourage socialization in the main hub and hopefully, you'll find someone you recognize to make taking things in a little easier.

WHAT'S YOUR DTF STATUS?
If the main hub and its features don't appeal to you, that's perfectly fine. This is the perfect time to configure your Digitized Technical Friend or your DTF status. A DTF is similar to a dæmon from His Dark Materials in that it is connected to and a reflection of a character's soul. These DTFs take shape accordingly and are projections similar to the NPCs. Think of them as your own personal Clippy except less annoying. Hopefully.
Once that's set-up, there are other locations of the main hub to investigate! You can visit the training grounds, music lounge, library, and onsen. Also, feel free to leave an offering for the deity of sleep (Hypnos) at his shrine! You can even visit The Peacekeeper themselves on the second floor. They're always happy to have visitors! They're also conveniently where you might place a complaint about that status of the main hub and its amenities. Even if you do complain, The Peacekeeper will encourage new inhabitants to set off and find their own place to live out in the simulation.
Granted, the housing market in the afterlife isn't exactly robust. It doesn't help that nearly every place you find has a leaky roof or broken window. No, unfortunately, that will need to be fixed the peaceful way. If you'd like more lighting or even cozier clothes, simulation inhabitants are reminded that 'peaceful interactions' are very important!
It might be a good idea to stick close to someone you know, for now, since even the smallest amounts of intimacy might see subtle changes occurring where they're staying. Perhaps that broken window is now fixed, the grime and dust seem a little less, or the floor doesn't creak quite as loud.
Larger changes, however, will only come after demonstrating more powerful peaceful interactions. If you want new hardwood floors or a fresh coat of paint on the walls, you're going to have to demonstrate how well you 'get along' with others against them first.

THE SEXY COMPENDIUM
Upon arrival to Amani, new inhabitants will be notified almost immediately of the sexy compendium that's uploaded to their DTF! This compendium lists all of the flora, fauna, unique geography, and miscellaneous items in Amani that might be worth looking at.
This database will update with seasonal highlights or places and items that might follow a theme! For example, the current theme is love for Valentine's Day and dragons for The Year of The Dragon!
While established inhabitants already know about all these things, it can't hurt to be reminded of what this simulated afterlife has to offer!

- ★ The Dragon Onsen » At the onsen, there is an outdoor pool set a bit off from the rest of the hot springs that has a dragon statue in the middle. It doesn't look as well-kept as the rest of the place and the water has a strange blue tint to it... Once one steps into this pool and soaks for a couple of minutes, they will change. It may be gradual or instantaneous, some might completely morph or only gain features but everyone will share a similarity: They suddenly look a lot more draconic than they did before. That's right, this spring is for all us dragonfuckers to let loose. It will, as with most things, only be temporary and last no more than a couple of hours after the initial soak. Have fun while it lasts!
★ Heart Jellies » In the shallow waters of Taasunni swim a strange species of jellyfish shaped like hearts. If stung by one of these creatures, the sensation will be pleasant rather than painful. It lingers for a while afterwards and will feel like a low-level electric current running through your body that makes it all tingly and warm.
★ Wyverns » Wyverns are a feral, bipedal lesser cousin to dragonkind. Proud, stubborn, fierce, and intelligent, wyverns are known to be extremely protective--of their territory, members of their social group, and their masters. Highly social and cooperative predators, they nest in the cliffs of Taasunni Beach, and can range far into the Aditus Grasslands to hunt. While most wyverns hunt using sharp talons and fangs or strong tails, a rare few show an innate capacity for magic, capable of churning up cutting winds with their wings or breathing fire or lightning. Those courageous enough to attempt to tame one will find that they are highly perceptive and willful creatures, slow to trust and disinclined to obey any but the most confident and strong of heart. Should anyone successfully earn their respect, however, they can become intensely devoted companions and mounts.
★ Love Blossoms » During the spring, a handful of trees with gorgeous, pink flowers will blossom starting in Novum and expanding throughout a good portion of the simulation. The pollen of these particular flowers are akin to pheromones that will fill one with insatiable desire. (Sex pollen. It's sex pollen.)
SEXY STAMP CARD
If you're wondering about these 'peaceful interactions' that keep being mentioned or what the kinks of the month are for... Here's your answer! Upon arrival, all characters will receive a digital copy of their very own sexy stamp card.
Completing peaceful interactions (i.e. kinks) will reward characters with stamps that they can turn in for re-gains and many other things! While the example one here is the standard issued card by The Peacekeeper, players are more than welcome to customize it how they see fit. Have fun with it!NOTES

so excited for time differences lol!!
Ka... Kabru?!
[Hey! He recognizes him! It's been almost a year since he's seen him last, but it was hard to forget him after their last few interactions in the dungeon. That punch alone he wouldn't be forgetting any time soon nor his promise to him, but he never expected to see him here. He has no idea what Kabru is going on about though- well. Surviving sure. But 'your majesty' and something about a kingdom? He blinks- still stunned before glancing at Kabru's grip on his shoulder, then back again to Kabru's piercing blue eyes.]
Huh? W-what are you talking about? Did you just arrive?
no subject
he's not unfond of the guy now, though— kabru's judgement, though wavering and unsure, had been proven right in the end. their king has shown himself to be good in the oldest convention of the word. a real king; a storybook king. he'd grudgingly begun to respect him.
he quickly removes his hand from laios' shoulder, looking at the taller man with a vaguely exasperated expression (he's pointedly ignoring that hideous dog thing— he knows about the DTF's, but having learned that they're projections, he's boycotting all of the monstrous ones). is he— really going to have to bring everyone back up to speed, here? but at the same time, his expression softens, and there's a relieved smile for laios. ]
Yes, I just arrived. Have you seen anyone else? Did anyone else survive? [ he pauses, a hand reaching up to ruffle the dark hair at the back of his neck. ]
I'm sorry about your sister. And Marcille. I know how close you all were.
no subject
Ah, I'd say welcome, but I know being here really isn't ideal... [A place that is all about intimate connections? Wonder why that would be hard for Laios!] As far as who all is here, it's just been me, Mithrun, and Thi- t-that's all.
[He catches himself, and stumbles out a bad cover up for Thistle. There's probably no reason Kabru would know who that was, but it makes more sense to just not tell him the previous dungeon lord was here. Or rooming with him. The consolations for his sister and Marcille though make his face twist with a twinge of both a lonely sadness and guilt.]
Thanks. There's still a possibility I'll see them here, but you're the first in a long while.
[Probably not the first person for Amani as a whole, but of someone he would recognize. It was a hard topic though and he tried his best in his day to day to distract himself. Knowing either he failed everyone and caused the end of the world not being able to take care of the demon or the worst option: wasting his time here instead of figuring a way home sooner where his sister's expiration date would have long since passed by now. Honestly, it probably explained a lot of his reckless behavior he had here. Throwing himself unfettered into his interests and trying to distance himself from personhood and dark thoughts. Not that Laios had really dissected his actions this much.
But Kabru had said something strange, hadn't he?]
Hey, are you hungry? I'm sure you have a lot of questions, we can go somewhere better and talk.
no subject
he's not particularly surprised that the king is keeping that elf; he recalls how they'd brought the former, catatonic dungeon master back— a husk of a creature. laios had been the reason that little scrap survived, after all. kabru himself had not intervened; at the time, he had another semi-catatonic, former dungeon master to attend to. he resolves to do a bit more careful prying later; for the time being, he's genuinely glad to be back around laios— the relief that there is some semblance of normalcy here for all of them, that there are people who survived whatever happened to merini and the golden continent.
there's a smile from kabru now, a little knowing— like this is a joke that they've long-shared. ] I could eat. As long as it's not made of monsters.
[ ah yes, making light of that confrontation they had back before the demon's defeat.
fortunately, there is—ah, was— no opportunity to add monsters to meals in the golden kingdom— laios' fate ensured that they wouldn't set foot in his territory.
taking a step away from that dog, he reaches down to pick up his own DTF. the cat hisses at the two-headed beast, shoving a paw against kabru's chest in an effort to attack it. they're a reflection of your own soul, he'd been told. well. his soul is apparently borderline feral. which is just— great. ] Ah— sorry. About her. I'm not sure why she's so aggressive. Pretty sure they gave me a defective one.
[ grabbing his cat by her scruff, kabru's smiling again in an instant. ]
Let's go. I'd invite you to my place, but I'm afraid I'm still sorting things out with the captain.
no subject
I know, I know-- I promised you a meal on the surface didn't I? We don't have too many options here, but it won't be made of any monsters.
[Speaking of monsters- that cat sure didn't like Beofluff huh? Even after being ignored by Kabru and the attempted attack by his cat, Beofluff continued to try to press closer. His tail wagging all the while. As a whole, his dog was fairly straight forward from what Laios had witnessed. Nothing too unusual as far as animal behaviors went, besides being a bit too overly friendly and trusting sometimes. He had a nose for finding things Laios was interested in. Still, not wanting to see a fight break out he leans down to hold back his own dog. Distracting him with pets and attention he knew it wanted.]
I think I can understand her reaction, not many cats want dogs in their business after all. If not that, it could be Beofluff's appearance setting her off? I know how you don't like monsters.
[But with the cat safely restrained, Laios nods and lets Beofluff go. He knows he's a good boy and actually the good boy is starting to lead the way! Onwards to the bakery!]
It's alright, it took me a while to get a place fixed up here so I wouldn't expect you to be set up already. You're staying with Mithrun then?
no subject
a laios that hasn't yet become king?
kabru places the cat back down, glancing up at laios. ] It's probably, uh. The two heads thing, yeah. [ his poor cat.
she's trailing after beofluff now, though, and hissing each time the dog looks back at her. but also. she's not trying to scratch him, and she isn't running away. weird. ] Mithrun offered to speak to his housemates on my behalf. It's comfortable, we don't have much trouble with sharing.
[ in fact, the sense of routine with mithrun seems to have calmed him significantly from his more frantic first day. the circumstances of the dungeon were just as outrageous as this place; it helps, to have his focus shifted to another person, instead of himself. the bakery stands before them now, and kabru gives laios a stupid, courtly bow, just from the waist— a little ironic, like he's not being entirely serious. ]
After you, your majesty. [ he straightens, sniffs a laugh. ] Sorry, force of habit. You see, you're king in the time period I came from. [ just spoilers for the whole of dungeon meshi right there. you know kabru's the type to give you an absolutely ruinous spoiler as if it were nothing.
that blue gaze does dart towards the interior of the bakery, as if he's looking for someone, just for a second.
he hadn't warned mithrun that they were coming— and while he's decently sure the elf won't mind, kabru's a creature of all sorts of courtesies. social graces, you see; they matter to him. ]
I should probably have warned Mithrun, hm.
no subject
That's good. I didn't know he had housemates.
[He always just invited Mithrun over to his place, he never really gave much thought to where he was staying. Well actually- he hadn't seen him passed out randomly in the sim in quite some time, so it made sense he was living someone. Angeal maybe? He thinks Mithrun said he was being fed by him.
Of course it's not long before the two of them make it to the bakery. Beofluff giving two barks at arrival and then promptly turning his attention to Kabru's cat now that it's gps services were no longer being needed. With their tail wagging they're going in for a sniff!
Meanwhile Kabru is... bowing to him? He calls him his majesty again and even with the explanation it doesn't make him feel less embarrassed about the gesture.]
Oh- uh, y-you don't have to do that. Let's just get our food first at least.
[Don't embarrass him in front of the bakery Kabru!!! He looks around, a little self conscious if someone else had seen. They probably had, but it was too late now. He does his best to push past it though, literally, by turning and heading inside.]
I think it's fine. Someone may tell him we're here after all.
[Kabru gets a raised eyebrow and a nod from Angeal as they enter, not that Laios seems to notice. He's too focused on the food options available today which don't take him long at all to pick. He orders both a breakfast sandwich and a pot pie for himself, along with whatever Kabru wants. He's got a few stamps to cover for them both if it's really needed. If not they may be getting some table-side feeding services.
With the food ordered though, they're free to get a table, which Laios leads the way back outside to one of the tables out there. A fairly painless bakery experience! Or nearly so, Laios does suddenly jolt on the way out after staring a moment too long on the resident catboy staff's tail. His face suddenly wet, though Laios offers no explanations himself. It just gets him to move quicker outside.
He got sprayed. Angeal has a magic spray bottle that can spray someone from anywhere.]
Alright- [Now comfortably seated at a table outside, with nothing to do but wait for food.] Let's talk. You say I'm a king where you're from? When did that happen?
kabru is a walking dunmeshi spoiler vehicle
kabru does a distinct double-take, quickly gathering up a few napkins and handing them over to laios.
once outside and seated, safely away from the trajectory of the spray bottle (magical spray bottle... that seems, in kabru's view, to be some sort of pervert repellent... what has his majesty been up to in this strange new world then, huh? he wants to know), kabru sits back, eyes on the street, before that gaze is quickly switched back to laios. always— examining. ]
Were you planning on telling me about the water bottle now, or after I give you an update on what happened in the dungeon? [ there's a thin smile for laios— this kabru seems. more at ease around him. there's even something very faintly teasing in his demeanour. like he's used to this; used to laios, and laios' quirks. the man has grown on him immensely, after all. ]
But, fine I won't keep you in suspense.
[ pauses.
to keep him in suspense. ]
One thing at a time. [ is he really doing this? kabru the storyteller. another pause. this is a dramatic story. this is a story that... kabru is making dramatic. ]
Falin lives, you become king, and uh— I'm your royal advisor. You know. Hand of the king. We do pretty well, considering. You're managing.
HE SURE IS its ok we knew this day was coming
He gives Kabru a dismissive wave at the question, but giving the other his full attention once his face was wiped off. And then Kabru just. drags him along. Building up dramatics that Laios frankly didn't care about. His expression falls flat.]
I was going to tell you, but-- I think you could stand to wait until after now.
[He's not actually mad though, his tone more of a playful jab, but two can play this game of drawing out suspense. Even if one was way more important than learning about a magic spray bottle. That said he looks relieved, breathing out a sigh that seemed to be filled with unsaid tension he had been holding. Not anything here with Kabru today, but things he's been bundling up inside of him since he got first arrived in Amani.]
Our plan worked? We brought her back then?
[Yes, even in the face of knowing he's apparently going to be king, Falin is who he focuses on first. That's the most important thing Kabru could have told him about his future.]
What happened to the demon?
no subject
but they are not dead, for what it's worth, and they are together, as they were in the golden kingdom. some good will surely come out of this, he thinks, and reaches over to clasp laios' arm. there's a crook of his mouth, and he knows that falin is the priority here but. he just can't quite resist: ]
Your majesty. I'm so, so sorry to report. But— you ate it.
[ speaking to a laios who has not eaten a demon, and knowing full well that the man— eats a demon. the joys of being the guy who knows the story's ending. kabru sniggers, but shakes his head at laios regardless. ] Trust me, we were more surprised than you probably are.
[ his eyebrow twitches. ]
Actually, not that surprised.
[ considering the man's proclivities. back to business: he gives another nod, sitting back in his seat, and looking out at the street— it's not so terribly different from merini, he supposes. in a way. ] Falin survived. She's at your side in the kingdom. Marcille too. You could say, the ending was just as we all hoped it would be.
[ he sounds— faintly sulky there, just at the end. ] That ending.
no subject
And what an answer he got. He's surprised, but largely baffled at the idea.]
Huh?! I ate it? But- wait, it's not a living- how did I?
[His face scrunches, no no he's actually pretty surprised, Kabru. Though he shrinks in just a tad at Kabru's not that surprised comment. This was a man before the deed was done, before he attempted to run away from the potential backlash of people truly seeing his deepest desire.
No, this Laios was just shocked to hear just how far from the plan things seem to have went. If Kabru needed any confirmation that Laios hadn't planned to turn into a giant monster. Well there you go.
With a sigh he slumps down a bit in his chair.]
Mm. Well, it sounds like it all worked out in the end at least. Or it had. [He brings a hand up to scratch at his chin, a fidget.] I'm guessing I became king for handling the previous dungeon lord? That's not really what I pictured for myself if I'm being honest.
