TDM #5
Welcome! Everything is fine.
Uploading. . . Complete!
The Lobby.
- When you open your eyes, there is quite a lot of beige to take in. The unassuming walls of the room you've found yourself in are barren save for a single motivational poster directly in your line of sight. An illuminated sign above an open door on the far wall reads 'lobby exit.'
"Welcome," chimes a polite, synthesized voice. "I'm happy you're here." A moment later comes the clarity of the situation: you have died and so has the world you came from. "This is Amani, your new reality," continues The Peacekeeper. "Everything will be fine."
At least you aren't the only one here, you'll soon find out, as others who are just as confused and concerned as you are mingling on the main hub's first floor. Hopefully, you find a familiar face among the crowd. If not, that's all right. You'll get to know quite a few people very well soon enough.
- If you're one of the unlucky few whose death required a bit more intensive re-coding to maintain stability in the simulation, you'll instead awaken on a bed in the infirmary. Everything is strikingly white save for the occasional string of vines with lavender growing in bursts to help keep people calm. Whether or not it works seems to be on a case-by-case basis.
While there is active medical staff, the voice of The Peacekeeper is also there to explain the situation in a more delicate manner to these individuals. It's already stressful enough having to have gone through such a violent death, after all!
If characters want more questions answered, they'll need to speak to The Peacekeeper directly. But first, it will encourage socialization in the main hub and hopefully, you'll find someone you recognize to make taking things in a little easier.

WELCOME
Throughout the main hub where everyone congregates, a light chiming echoes through the first floor. "Hello, everyone," comes the synthetic voice from when you first arrived. "Please, watch your step since there's quite a few anomalies present. If you'd like, there is cake and some refreshments."
A small pause. "Oh, and! Don't forget to visit the new training grounds, music lounge, library, and onsen. Also, feel free to leave an offering for our resident deity of sleep at his shrine!"
Was that utility pole always there in the middle of the main hub? How did your shoe - just the one - get out on the lawn? You could have sworn you saw them together last. Actually, they are together now if you check. Just what is going on? Trying to draw close to these out-of-place or extra objects will cause them to giggle, wiggle, and disappear in a puff of smoke. Instead of a pole, it's now a wayward chair or cart that wasn't there just a moment before. If one continues to follow this tricky trail, they'll be rewarded by discovering the culprit: a tanuki.
While they appear to be harmless, some of their tricks may get taken just a little bit too far. You may grab for your vibrator only for it to go up in smoke and cause frustration in more ways than one. Or, they'll lead some individuals right into danger's path and giggle all the while. If someone attempts to catch them, they'll be left with only a leaf to show for it and the tracks of these mythical creatures leading directly to the beach.
If the main hub and its features don't appeal to you, that's perfectly fine. This is the perfect time to configure your Digitized Technical Friend or your DTF status. A DTF is similar to a dæmon from His Dark Materials in that it is connected to and a reflection of a character's soul. These DTFs take shape accordingly and are projections similar to the NPCs. Think of them as your own personal Clippy except less annoying. Hopefully.
Once that's set-up, there are other locations of the main hub to investigate! You can still find an instrument to play in the music lounge or check out the (algae-ridden) pool.
You can even visit The Peacekeeper themselves on the second floor. They're always happy to have visitors! They're also conveniently where you might place a complaint about that status of the main hub and its amenities. Even if you do complain, The Peacekeeper will encourage others to set off and find their own place to live out in the simulation.
Granted, the housing market in the afterlife isn't exactly robust. It doesn't help that every place you find has a leaky roof or broken window. No, unfortunately that will need to be fixed the peaceful way. If you'd like more lighting or even cozier clothes, simulation inhabitants are reminded that 'peaceful interactions' are very important!
It might be a good idea to stick close to someone you know, for now, since even the smallest amounts of intimacy might see subtle changes occurring where they're staying. Perhaps that broken window is now fixed, the grime and dust seem a little less, or the floor doesn't creak quite as loud.
Larger changes, however, will only come after demonstrating the more powerful peaceful interactions. If you want new hardwood floors or a fresh coat of paint on the walls, you're going to have to demonstrate how well you 'get along' with others against them first.
★ One of the aforementioned features will toggle automatically. All one needs to do is set foot on the sands of Taasunni and they'll be changed into the appropriate dress for a beach outing. Well, appropriate might be a bit of a stretch... This feature is, as mentioned, new and will be subject to some modifications. For now, inhabitants will have to deal with being put into something scandalous, ridiculous, or both!
The Peacekeeper promises to listen to feedback accordingly and modify everyone's outfits to something a bit less outlandish... eventually. In the meantime, why not flaunt what you've got and make the most of the simulated sun's rays on your skin?
★ If you'd rather preserve what little dignity you may have left, there are changing tents available to grab a towel that somehow covers up more than your swimwear probably did. Although some might be wary of tents after the picnic, these ones do not have aphrodisiac candles in them! But they do have a catch. These tents are translucent from the inside looking out like a one-way pane of glass.
Not to worry though! From the outside, no one can see in even if you can see them. In fact, there might be a subtle urge to see just how far you can take things within the walls of these tents while those outside are unawares; it might just scratch that itch for some exhibitionism without anyone actually watching.

TRICKY TRICKSTERS
About those aforementioned anomalies...Was that utility pole always there in the middle of the main hub? How did your shoe - just the one - get out on the lawn? You could have sworn you saw them together last. Actually, they are together now if you check. Just what is going on? Trying to draw close to these out-of-place or extra objects will cause them to giggle, wiggle, and disappear in a puff of smoke. WHAT'S YOUR DTF STATUS?
If the main hub and its features don't appeal to you, that's perfectly fine. This is the perfect time to configure your Digitized Technical Friend or your DTF status. SUN'S OUT, GUNS OUT
"Hello, inhabitants," greets The Peacekeeper. "No doubt you've noticed the temperature gradually rising as my nature parameters adjust to summer weather." It has gotten a bit warmer these days, hasn't it? Although some may have not noticed, there is no doubt that others have been sensitive to the climbing heat.
"To remedy any discomfort, I suggest you hit the beach! There are plenty of fun new features that I've been requested to implement by The Creators to help keep everyone content! We hope that you enjoy them!"★ One of the aforementioned features will toggle automatically. All one needs to do is set foot on the sands of Taasunni and they'll be changed into the appropriate dress for a beach outing. Well, appropriate might be a bit of a stretch... HARMONIOUS HEARTS
DTFs will helpfully tell their owners that it is mating season for the heart jellies just off the shores of Taasunni. During the next couple of months, there will be an abundance of them floating idly in the cool waters of the sea. While their sting doesn't usually hurt, exactly, during this time there is a bit more risk to being zapped than just an enjoyable tingling sensation. It will burn but because their sting leaves a heart branded into one's skin temporarily.
Nothing will seem to relieve the dull pain on your own; however, the brand will draw others to you and serve as a target for their, ahem, affections. Bodily fluids from the most intimate of areas are about the only thing that will provide some relief and cause these heart-shaped brands to fade. Hopefully, you didn't get stung anywhere too embarrassing or difficult to come on!
Unfortunately, the other side effect of these stings is that the person with the brand won't be able to find relief - literal or sexual - until it's gone. Nothing will seem to bring them over that brink before their partner has "helped" get rid of the marking. Whether or not they do that quickly will be entirely up to them. The lack of control might be a bit unnerving but hopefully the eventual orgasm will be absolutely worth it.

CALLING TO ME
★ Throughout the simulation, as the sun dips low in the sky and stars begin to make their nightly debut, the sound of furin carrying on the breeze can be heard. It draws people to the beach and appears to sound from somewhere beyond sight passed ocean waves. It will make inhabitants feel a keen sense of longing that they can't quite explain. Whatever the case, they will want for more suddenly. Whether this is from their partner, their life, or just in general, the feeling won't be shaken so easily. Thankfully, the sound and feelings it evokes are only temporary. Just don't be surprised if that feeling of longing leads you to bite off more than you can chew in some way or another.
★ Observant inhabitants may notice that the island that spawned when the simulation expanded is now much closer to shore than before. It's also... moving? Although subtle and slow, it does appear to be inching ever closer to show throughout the day. It will make land during nightfall and reveal a giant turtle with palm trees and other tropical foliage growing off of its back.
"Sorry about the-" It's words are broken up by a loud yawn that will make anyone close suddenly very drowsy. "-tanuki. They decided to hitch a ride without me knowing." The turtle yawns again, causing another wave of grogginess to hit those talking to it. "I'll take them back when I give you all a ride to one of The Dead Ends. But until then... It was a long swim here. I'm going to just - aaawwwhhhh - take a short nap." That short nap will last two weeks. Inhabitants are free to climb aboard the turtle's back but it won't be stirring again anytime soon, unfortunately.
And perhaps neither will you! That sleepiness is downright contagious and will lead to inhabitants that had spoken to the turtle for any length of time falling into a deep slumber the next time they decide to lay down. Almost nothing will be able to wake them until the effect subsides. Although, if they seem more receptive to a bit of intimacy than anything... That's just a coincidence, surely!

Still, he shifts, folding his arms a bit over his chest and leaning a little against one of the tables holding towels here.
"Of course, I have many questions for you regarding where it is you're from... these strange, diverging timelines... it's a nuisance, but I guess that's nothing new." The internal politicking of the Monastery and the Houses and then the various missions and battles. The years he spent working underground... all of it. And now his time spent fighting a war alongside Dimitri Blaiddyd? Gone?
How obnoxious. Do you know how long it takes to do that sort of footwork? And now with a completely, supposedly different, Dimitri? He really wants to just grab him up by the shoulders and say "did you hit your head?" But he knows that the once titled "boar prince" requires careful handling. He intends to follow through.
"For now, I suppose you'll have to learn all the more about me along the way as well. We're the best and brightest now, Dimitri. We've got a new job and all that according to this Peacekeeper." He will sit right up on the table there, the one holding some towels. It teeters just a little bit, but like a bird, Yuri manages to perch with perfect balance on it. "What do you think of it all?"
no subject
His eyes follow ever movement Yuri makes, trying to figure out what he's doing exactly. The outfit is one thing, clearly it's meant as a distraction and it probably would work wonders on most. It's the coy body language, the unspoken words Yuri isn't saying that has Dimitri a little on edge but not uncomfortable. He's used to these sort of mind games with Yuri and so he follows him to the table, looking at him on a more equal terms. He's not the best at mind games but he'll play along.
"You want to know about me? You can start by calling me 'your majesty' " He moves closer to the table, leaning against it as his eyes take Yuri in. "If my conversation with myself was anything to go by...it seems the biggest difference is that I never grew close with the Ashen Demon." Perhaps it's too much to say, or too little he isn't sure. It seemed a big deal his other self, he wonders if others will think the same.
The mention of the peacekeeper almost sours his mode. His eyes grow dark for a moment and he moves until he is standing in front of Yuri, his hands on either side of him on the small table. He's only a little taller then Yuri at his angle and still able to cage him in. "I don't think you want to hear my opinion on this peacekeeper." The words are said with a tinge of malice. "Let's keep them out of this conversation."
no subject
"Your majesty," he purrs. "Will you have me take a knee then? Lick your boots? I'm but an insignificant, beautiful thing, after all. Perhaps you can find some other use for me if that's how you're going to act..." He's not afraid, not of Dimitri. There are far more frightening people hiding in the shadows, people who could do so much worse. His expression is soft, but cold, even with the flush from the heat radiating through the tent and off of Dimitri's body.
"But fine. No Keeper. They've done enough damage, it seems." He doesn't frown, but his face remains neutral instead. He doesn't shy back from Dimitri, rather: "Just us. Would you enlighten me on the situation with... [ byleth ] the Ashen Demon, then? Or does that upset you as well?" He leans into him now, just a little, hovering to stay close, sat straight and shoulders back. He might be caged, but he will only sing of ugly things if this is how it's going to be.
The left strap of Yuri's bikini starts to slide off of his shoulder. He smells like sunscreen and a soft lilac perfume, all intermingling with heat. The heart-shaped sunglasses he has perched on his head slide back with a soft clatter.
"Wouldn't want you losing your temper. This tent couldn't hold it." His eyes flicker briefly towards movement just outside, someone staring at the tent, but not seeing through it. It's just as invasive. His breath barely hitches—all practice. "Though I'm sure there are better outlets for such things..." Than losing one's temper.
no subject
"Enough. Stop with the act." He knows he could be more threatening, it isn't hard. He's perfected the mask of indifference he wears but it seems that mask isn't effective here. He was the one meant to cage Yuri in and yet he's the one feeling caged in now. He paces for a moment, each quip digging at him a little more.
The strap, the scents, the heat, it's all getting to him and then Yuri has to mention Byleth. He's still sore on that, too sore. To learn that his whole existence when arriving was for nothing was one thing, but learning that there was a place he was happy once was still too much for him. He snapped.
"I said enough ." His hand is in Yuri's hair, grabbing him roughly and pulling him closer. He keeps Yuri a breathe away, the smell of lilac and sunscreen engulfing him. "You want to talk? Fine. We talk but you drop this act or I leave. Understood?" He kept Yuri close, his eyes darting to those lips for a moment. He almost leaned in but stopped himself, releasing Yuri. "And get off the table, it's not a chair."
1/2
2/2
Yuri's voice goes a little sharper now, the edge of a blade, taking a few steps downwards as well.
"But drop my hair if you want to keep your fingers, Blaiddyd. I'll sit wherever I please." You don't own me. No one owns me. A bird is going to sit where a bird is going to sit and that's that. "Now tell me about this timeline of yours."
no subject
He lets go of Yuri's hair and let's his hand run through the soft lavender strands a moment, his grin softening briefly before he goes to sit across from him. He has to sit on his knees in order to keep some level of decorum with his speedo on. The damn thing is starting to ride up on him in a very uncomfortable way. If he was alone in the tent he would have ripped the thing off entirely and used a towel to cover himself up instead. At least that would be more coverage than this.
"I doubt you know any mercenary named Shez. I met them a few years ago instead of the Ashen Demon. The ashen demon never became a teacher, rather they were hired by the empire instead at the beginning of the war. I only was able to recruit them to our-" He paused a moment.".. my side later. We won the war but at the cost of many..."
no subject
"You're right, I don't know a Shez... and you said 'our'? Did you mean us?"
He watches Dimitri from his perch, ankles crossed over carefully now as he fixes his hair with his hands now. "There's a version of me there, right?"
no subject
"Yes...you were on my side..." He sighs and runs a hand through his own hair, annoyance on his face. "If I didn't pay you would have either ran, never to be seen again or died at my blade. The choice was obvious." Azure eyes glared through the mess of blond bangs covering his face. "I did end up trusting you enough to become my spymaster..."
His hand drops and so does the glare, replaced with a look of fondness. "You were very good at it, I enjoyed our talks on reformations as well."
no subject
"Well... that's a job that I'd be incredibly good at, an excellent choice, your majesty." He winks. But his expression shifts to something a bit more attentive now however. "In all seriousness... what sort of reformations did you have in mind...?"
He wonders if they still align with his own.
no subject
"Your ideas on public work projects always amazed me. You've always had a better grasp on what the common people truly need despite my best efforts at trying." Dimitri leaned forward, his hands on his lap as he looked at him, not wanting to gaze into Yuri's eyes.
"We've had many a late night discussing what should or could be done first." A low almost inaudible chuckle leaves him. "I still recall the day you met me in town and scolded me for wandering the streets alone only to than become my tour guide. I truly enjoyed that day."
no subject
It makes Yuri bristle privately. Petting him. Who does he think he is?
He steels his expression all the same.
"Your interests lie with those beneath you then... the people who have to struggle for their basic needs in the dirt. That's impressive, really. Here I thought the three of you were obsessed with your little game of three-way chess." He sounds impressed. Surprised even. He hops off the table and walks towards where Dimitri is knelt, crouching down carefully.
"You would be stupid for meandering common streets alone... it figures you'd do something like that."
no subject
"My interests have always been for the people. I never wanted a war. I wanted peace...it's all I've ever wanted." He looks up as Yuri walks over to him, his hands still in his lap. He realizes the position his in now but he doesn't move to rectify it.
"Call me stupid all you like. I wouldn't trade that memory for anything else. I learned much that day."
no subject
"Do you believe your ideals align the same way here? For the people?" For the ones stuck here? Miserable too? We could make their lives better. Yuri isn't one for charity, rather, he works for everything he's had, but the very nature of this place, tearing people from homes, "reuploading" them as they put it? It doesn't sit well with him.
"I don't want to become complacent here."
Honesty. Again.
"I don't think you do either. But I do believe we both have quite a bit of adjusting to do." He glances at an errant piece of Dimitri's hair before lifting up a hand, covered in bracelets galore (meant to conceal, meant to hide something precious) as he pushes some of the strands back with a flick of his painted fingernails.
no subject
"I want to make the peacekeeper regret bringing me here. This world is cruel and I will do whatever I can to fix it." His eyes close at the touch, long blond eyelashes fluttering for a moment and then opening once more. "I believe we might be able to get along here as well." He grabs Yuri's wrist and plays with the bangles for a moment before moving one to expose his wrist. He moves to stand until he is once again towering over the other, his wrist still in his grasp.
"Are we in agreement?"
no subject
But.
They are in agreement... aren't they? The Savage Mockingbird needs work again, and so does the lordling in all his finery and carefully kept fury. If there's any violence here, Yuri has yet to see it, but no doubt the two of them are going to be on high alert for a while. He can feel it. As Dimitri rises, Yuri gets to his feet.
"I think we are." He lifts his chin. "Consider me someone you can perhaps... learn to trust again." Trust. Hah. That's going to be funny. All the same, he doesn't hesitate, he steps forward, just a little closer. The warmth from his own body is cloying, past summer, like a fever. "How do you prefer we seal this agreement," and then with a soft laugh, "Your majesty?"
Man, what a brat.
no subject
There is an almost hunger in the way Dimitri glances at Yuri's wrist, the way the exposed crests looks against the rest of his skin. It's beautiful. The change in the mood of the tent is not unnoticed by Dimitri and he brings the wrist to his lips, kissing the mark of Yuri's crest. Blue eyes never breaking eye contact as he does.
"I think this will suffice for now."
The moment is over as soon as he lets go of him and takes a step back, putting distance between them.
no subject
Between his thighs, he can feel it, a rush of heat, embarrassing.
Once the distance is between them, Yuri shoves the bracelets back down sharply, fingers curled into a fist until he can figure out how to will the blood from his face and throat. Fuck him.
"Well then. What would you like to do now? Do you even know how to relax? Or do I have to show you?"
no subject
"I'm going to find somewhere cooler." He's ready to leave, especially with those last thoughts still lingering in his mind. His speedo feels a little tighter, it's best for both of them if he leaves now.
"I doubt you will have a hard time finding me again."
no subject
"You'd be right," he says, starting to stride forward and making certain he can be first, sorry, he's rude like that. Yuri moves and pushes aside the tent flap with one hand and glances over his shoulder. "I'll see you again, I'm sure. For now, don't get yourself into too much trouble."
He will force Dimitri to watch his ass as he leaves, sorry.
