Rose had tried to tell Byleth that she was fine, that it wasn't even the first time someone she cared about probably died while she was whisked away to another place without them so she should just be used to it by now. Her appearance speaks to the ways she wasn't alright though more than she actually could.
It was a hard thing to process despite herself. Guilt that she'd made it and he didn't, knowing he had so much more to live for and get back to than her. Fear that he wouldn't ever make it here or, worse, not remember. And now, she feels bad that she is relieved he's here since she's aware of what that means. Or, at least, what they've been told it does. Like many, she doesn't necessarily believe everything is gone. But being dead? Well- That wasn't anything new for her.
Yet it's selfish, isn't it, to be glad that he's here? She is, that isn't going to change but it feels so loaded and- Ugh. Maybe she should have gotten that other drink after all. ]

[ She stops short when his fingers brush against her cheek. The care behind the gesture, even now, makes her heart flutter in the strange way it had on the island those couple of times. Unfortunately, it only serves to twist her up that much more as she takes a shaky breath and tries not to undo the help in drying off her face by crying more. ]
