The message Noctis receives from Ignis says: "I found Cor, and he was in serious condition. I managed to get him medical attention but he won't let me see anything. Please guilt trip him and/or use royal authority on him. Thank you. P.S. What do you want for dessert tonight?"
Cor. Cor Leonis, here? If there's one person who fits the kind of place Amani is the least, Noctis would say it's Cor. The marshal's going to hate it here, Noctis is certain.
But there's also a pang of...not dread, but maybe nerves? At the thought that Cor is here. What point in time has he come from? Does he know Noctis as the uncooperative, spoiled prince or a king he has yet to become? What is Cor expecting?
Can Noctis, even now, possibly live up to what Cor is expecting? He really doubts it.
A younger Noctis might have just tried to avoid Cor for as long as he could, but that's not who he is anymore. He has to at least try to show Cor that he's made progress, that he's ready and willing to do everything and more for the sake of all those people who are depending on him. That he can be even a fraction of the king his father was. And maybe...maybe Cor will be proud of him.
How long will you remain the protected? The king entrusted the role of protector to you.
He always had faith in you, that when the time came, you would ascend for the sake of your people.
Noctis never knew whether Cor shared that faith. Maybe he's about to find out.
He starts for the stairs, but pauses at the top. What is it Iggy always says about making the right impression? Something something professional appearance something...Noctis glances down at his casual outfit and heads back into his room to change. But into what? Too casual, and he can practically hear Ignis saying he looks 'unkempt.' Too formal, and Cor might think he's trying to...replace Regis or something, so that's no good either.
Eventually, he settles on something that's somewhere in between and hopes it's good enough. Only then does he make his way down the stairs to wherever Ignis has stashed the marshal. Cor will find a Noctis who looks more like his younger self than the one who will sit the throne, but visibly somewhere in between. Still clean-shaven, but his hair's gotten a little longer and his face is a bit closer to the shape and definition it will have in eight more years.
I...ish. Arrival - at the royal abode

"Um...hey, Cor. Heard you were here."
