The Doll considers Rosie's meandering advice. It's interesting to hear Rosie herself describe it as confusing, as the Doll generally assumed any confusion must simply be a failing on her own part. After all, being a good doll meant learning about and understanding people.

The Doll places articulated fingers over where her heart would be if she had one. "It is overwhelming, this love-ache. I would be anyone, for everyone. But I am not good enough at pretending to be real. Not yet. That is why I would learn from you."
