Cloud's not one to stand back and wait for his opponent to come to him, so by the time Leon starts running, Cloud's already moving, too. His reflexes are way too fast, his senses too sharp, for a simple feint to catch him off-guard; as Leon's sword sweeps low, Cloud leaps high into the air and somersaults forward into a hard downward blow.
The fight goes on from there in much the same vein, but Cloud has to learn Leon's fighting style from scratch, while Leon knows a lot of his moves already and has been practicing for this matchup - Leon gets his few good hits and takes Cloud by surprise a few times, too.
In the end, though, Cloud drives him back almost to the edge of the training yard. He winds up for one of his devastating finishers, throwing his weight behind it the way he normally would...except normally, he's wielding Buster, not a flimsy wooden sword that weighs practically nothing by comparison. His strength proves too much for the poor training weapon - as Leon brings his own blade up to parry, both swords splinter and break.
"Uh...shit. Whoops." Still, he has a fight to win, and he won't win it standing around looking at the broken half-blade in his hand. So he drops it, opting instead to just...run at Leon and tackle him to the ground. Doesn't take too long from there for Cloud to get him facedown in the grass, straddling his hips with one arm pinned behind his back and Cloud's free hand planted on the ground just beside Leon's head to brace himself.

"Well?" he asks, a bit out of breath. "You done?"
