He doesn't question it, even though it's certainly a high bar for belief; everything here, in his experience, is pretty unlikely. More than enough that this doesn't seem any more unbelievable than any of the things he knows to be factual. "Much less a different gender than we're accustomed to. That must be...difficult for you."
After a pause, he realizes he's been given an introduction, and owes one in return. "Sephiroth."
He's distracted by the cat, having finished its fish, suddenly headbutting his hand for pets. Surprised but gratified, he obliges - and Byleth may find there's something very Dimitri-esque in how careful and gentle he is with his hands, as though afraid of breaking fragile things. "I haven't had much success with people, either...outside of a few isolated cases." He glances sidelong at her. "What have your difficulties stemmed from?"
