[ dying has become old hat to david. when you're taken by a weird spider god and forced to participate in trials against various killers where the only outcomes are death and survival, you learn to deal with death pretty quickly. that still doesn't make things any easier when you do die. david had a pretty violent death, and so he wakes up on the bed with a start. he doesn't even bother checking himself before he gets up and starts looking around.
